The source of the title of T. E. Lawrence's masterpiece is the book of Proverbs: "Wisdom hath builded a house: she hath hewn out her seven pillars." T HE story which follows was ﬁrst written out in Paris during the Peace Conference, from notes jotted daily on the march, strengthened by some reports sent to my chiefs in Cairo. Af-terwards, in the autumn of , this ﬁrst draft and some of the notes were lost. It seemed to me historically needful to reproduce the tale, as Seven Pillars of Wisdom is the autobiographical account of T.E. Lawrence - also known as 'Lawrence of Arabia' - of his service in the Arab Revolt during the First World War, published in Penguin Modern Classics.. Although 'continually and bitterly ashamed' that the Arabs had risen in revolt against the Turks as a result of fraudulent British promises of self-rule, Lawrence led them in a 4/5(1). Seven pillars of wisdom is an autobiography by TE Lawrence of his war exploits in the Middle East during World War One.
